¡°Roncevie¡± is truly an insider Burgundy secret and great value for those in the know. This extraordinary vineyard with its many older vines sits surrounded by Gevrey villages vineyards, and neighbors grand cru Mazoyeres-Chambertin. The Arlaud family moved to the Cote de Nuits many years ago and purchased this parcel of ¡°Roncevie¡±. However, as the family were not originally local, the land could not receive the Gevrey classification in 1935.
¡°Roncevie¡± is ¡°the best Bourgogne Rouge parcel in the Cote de Nuits,¡± says winemaker Roman Arlaud, and he would know. He's part of a very hard-working family team for whom a sense of place is second nature. The Arlaud family has not only grown up among Burgundian vines, but also for years has committed themselves to caring for their vines organically, seeking above all a personality and terroir purity in wine unblemished by unnatural manipulation. As a result all Arlaud Burgundy including La Roncevie are breathtakingly pure and seriously complex¡ªan undiluted draught of the finest Bourgogne Rouge terroirs.

The Arlaud family was brutal in their selection of fruit in the 2007 vintage, shedding some 35% of the harvest so only truly perfect fruit made it into their final wines. As it does every vintage, this impressive Burgundy captures the purity and persistence of Pinot Noir in all its sensual richness and is anything but a ¡°basic¡± Bourgogne Rouge. ¡°Roncevie¡± is rich, layered and penetrating from aroma to finish. |
