Domaine Etienne Sauzet

Etienne Sauzet was born in 1903. It is following a heritage of a few hectares of vines that it created its own vineyard. With the passing of years, it acquires vines until the field covers a little more than 12 hectares about 1950. Since its death, in 1975, it is her small Jeanine daughter, and her husband Gerard Boudot, who assume the direction of the field. In 1991, following a successional distribution, the field was tiny room to a little less than 9 hectares.

The historic heart of this domaine comprises premier cru vineyards on Puligny’s northern border (Champ Canet, Combettes, Referts, Perrières) whose richly-textured wines already hint at the opulent style of contiguous Meursault. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2006 and after two years of experimentation all switched to biodynamic cultivation from 2010. The grapes are sorted to remove grey rot where necessary, then pressed without crushing and fermented in oak until racking into tank before the next harvest, for a further six months élévage on the fine lees. The premiers crus receive between 20% (La Garenne) and 33% (Combettes) new oak with 40% for the grands crus.
