Domaine Hudelot Noellat

Hudelot Noellat is definitely one of the top domains in Burgundy. From the estate which he patiently built up over the years, comprising vineyards mostly around the villages of Vosne-Romanee and Chambolle-Musigny, Alain Hudelot-Noellat makes deliciously fragrant and sensual wines. Self-effacing and modest by nature, he is a master of his art, and his wines inspire great loyalty among his clients.

Alain Hudelot works in more or less the way his father and grandfather did before him. He reveres old vines, and works his vineyards as naturally as possible, rotating treatments to increase their efficacy and ploughing to keep weeds at bay.

He abhors green-pruning, and if the standard methods of yield reduction have not had the desired result, he prefers to give his vats a saignee. He generally destalks some 75% of the grapes, and gives his grapes a vatting of 15-18 days, preferring to macerate before rather than after fermentation. Grand Cru is aged in new oak, while others are aged in 20%-30% new oak. Since 1990 they have been neither fined nor filtered. Hudelot-Noellat wines are aromatic, seductive and silky, with rich, intense fruitiness and body and structure.
