Jean Luc Colombo

Jean-Luc and his wife arrived in Cornas in the 1980s, and by 1984 they had set up the wine consultancy with which he made his mark. His outspoken opinions quickly ensured his name became well known, although not all agreed with his methods of near organic viticulture, 100% destemming and long maceration - up to a month - to enhance extraction. When ever he makes his wine, his focus remains squarely on making wines that work well with food.

Jean Luc Colombo Viognier La Violette 2010
The color is a brilliant light straw, with an aroma of intense acacia, yellow peaches and exotic fruits. On the palate the wine is very elegant and harmonious. Its freshness allows the fruit to fully develop. A seductive wine to be enjoyed with appetizers or monkfish and peach salad.
Jean Luc Colombo Cote du Rhone Les Abeilles Blanc 2009/2010
Made from Clairette, Grenach Blanc, Viognier and Roussanne. Les Abeilles, or "the bees" in French, is a virtuoso white wine blend of traditional southern Rhone white grapes. Straw yellow in color. Floral and fruity aromas. Full-bodied, complex, crisp and well-balanced.
Jean Luc Colombo Syrah La Violette 2010
A deep and beautiful mulberry colored robe. The nose is reminiscent of the garigue, ripe red fruits and soft spices. The mouth is nicely rounded and well structured with balance and length. The tannins may be slightly wild yet remain tasty. A wine with attitude which offers immediate enjoyment and which will perfectly accompany a roast leg of lamb.
Jean Luc Colombo Cote du Rhone Les Abeilles 2008
Intense purple, bright. Seductive nose of small red fruits, coriander, and bay leaf. Fresh and silky, the aromas follow through on to the mouth and are prolonged by notes of liquorices and spices. A friendly, supple wine with well rounded tannins with good persistence. This is a food friendly wine which will perfectly match grilled lamb, pork and assorted cheeses.
Jean-Luc Colombo Crozes Hermitage La Tuiliere 2008
The wine possesses typical aromas of Syrah from the northern Rhône: small red fruits, blackcurrants, supported by spicy notes. The wine is well structured and pleasant and can be enjoyed straight away for its' fruit.
Jean Luc Colombo Cornas Les Mejeans 2009
The robe is a deep yet brilliant red. The nose is complex with blackcurrants, chocolate, black fruits. On the palate, a good solid, tannic structure shows through after a fairly supple attack. "Les Méjeans" is a fine expression of the terroir and appellation Cornas. It may be cellared for some years or enjoyed younger while still on its fruit.
Jean Luc Colombo Cornas Terres Brulees 2008
Dense ruby/purple-tinged, medium to full-bodied wine revealing plenty of red fruits, and a hint of espresso. The bouquet boasts blackberries, black currants and tobacco. Rich, concentrated and spicy, persistent aromas of licorice add elegance to the structure. This wine should drink well for 10-12 years.
