Moulin Touchais

Moulin Touchais is produced in one of the most famous vineyards of the Anjou area, near Saumur in the heart of the Loire Valley. The Moulin Touchais vineyard stands on the banks of the tiny Layon river, where the soil varies between slate, gravel and clay. The extensive vineyard has been in the Touchais family since 1787. The methods of viticulture and vinification have changed little over the years and are still based on the traditional values of low yields, careful harvesting, meticulous winemaking and the practice of sustainable viticulture.

Moulin Touchais is made for 100% of Chenin Blanc grapes. These grapes are hand-picked in several stages. In fact the real secret of the Moulin Touchais’ longevity and charming complexity results from the harvesting strategy philosophy, which generally yields fruit with high sugar levels and concentrated flavours. This is an historic property and a true hidden gem! The wines are aged a minimum of 10 years before release. It has an amazing track record for longevity, and can last 50-100 years in the great vintages.

Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon 1982
Brilliant golden color with golden hue. The nose remains subtle again, with nuances of orange blossom, caramel, toffee, apple and spice. Rich luscious palate with generous mouth feel. The complexity is beginning to take on even greater expression here; spice, toffee apple, lemon and honeycomb flavors are layered over a viscous palate. The acidity is still fresh, with very long aftertaste of toffee apple, honey and lemon.

Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon 1984
Brilliant gold colour, delicate nose, flowery and vivid. Smooth acidity of Chenin Blanc is melt to mellow and freshness. Complex persistance in mounth is quite impressive. To drink now with fresh scallop on sea salt or in sauce or with English Stilton cheese.

Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon 1985
The Moulin Touchais 1985 Coteaux du Layon smells alluringly of baked apple, apple jelly, pink pineapple, and heady flowers. Lusciously rich on the palate, yet not lacking cut or clarity, it carries honey, baked apple and grapefruit into a long, rich, if not rivetingly complex finish. Heaven knows I would be delighted for the opportunity to sip a glass of either of these in a restaurant, whether as aperitif, with foie gras, or in lieu of dessert.
The Wine Advocate's - 90 Points
