Vinoptima Estate
Vinoptima Estate was developed for one reason only - the making of great Gewurztraminer wines. Situated on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, the vineyard comprises 9.7 hectares planted with 5 different clones of Gewurztraminer that Nick Nobilo has selected during more than 25 years work with the variety (they simply haven’t planted anything else!) and is divided into two blocks of roughly equal size. Vinoptima Estate is a fully integrated, self-contained vineyard and wine producing business dedicated to the production of a single commercial wine from grapes grown entirely on the Estate.
Drawing on over 40 years of winemaking experience, Vinoptima is the realisation of a lifetime’s work. Latin for “best wines”, Vinoptima is based on the French paradigm of terroir and combines the best of both old and new world winemaking practices. The winery owner Nick Nobilo monitors every stage and every single detail of the winemaking process, to ensure that each bottle of Vinoptima is the very best example of great Gewurztraminer wine.

Vinoptima Reserve Gewurztraminer 2004
The light lemon/green 2004 labelled 'Vendage Tardive' (a term for late harvest in Alsace) is youthful, immaculate and richly scented. Very weighty (14.5% alcohol), it offers deep, ripe flavours of lychees, citrus fruits, ginger and spice, with a gentle sweetness (20 grams/litre of residual sugar), good acid balance and a tight, refined structure. It should blossom with age.

Vinoptima Reserve Gewurztraminer 2006
The wine displays a character quite different to previous vintages. Intense spicy characters of ginger all-spice and vanilla with lychee fruit typical of a great Gewurztraminer. The flavour is refreshing and mild on the palate and will age with increasing intensity. Average 10 years, 2016 plus.
