Fossil
Rock
The world¡¯s greatest wines are
all created in unique terriors. This is one of
the most important factors when we looked for
the vineyard site of Fossil Rock. Here in South
Australia, we believe we have found the land that
takes to make the world¡¯s finest wines. Today,
the land we use to grow the grapes for Fossil
Rock comes from pieces of uniquely rich and fertile
soils. These soils are created over the last 26
million years. Not until 8 million years ago,
the land Fossil Rock comes from was under the
sea, rich deposit of sea weed and shell fish covers
the whole region. Over time these mixed with the
high proportion of mineral in the soil created
what we see today. Without human intervention,
these ancient soils were left un-touched by human
until today.
We were excited to have discovered this virgin
piece of land and see the potential what it can
produce. While planting the vineyard, we uncovered
many pieces of seashell fossils that had left
untouched for millions of years. This not only
showed us the land has not been cultivated on
before, and gave us a clear indication of the
richness of this land. From this unique and ancient
land, we were able to produce grapes that are
prefect from wine making. I hope when you taste
the wines you were able to taste and picture the
amazing quality of these wines.

Rock Merlot Shiraz 2008
A blend of Merlot and Shiraz, this is distinctively south Australian. The aroma is expressive with almost chocolate and mocha, clever use of oak to balance the beautiful concentration of fruit. The palate is lush, but there is still fresh acidity to make sure the wines will have a zesty and energetic finish. |
